Twelve Talons Beerworks, founded in 2019, is a boutique craft microbrewery, cidery and meadery located in the Milk District of Orlando Florida. Known for its unique flavor profiles, Twelve Talons aims to have a rotating tap lineup that appeals to all types of beer lovers. Friends, co-owners and brewers Travis Smith and Daniel Diaz wanted to create a relaxed space for the community to experience their love for beer. Both Daniel and Travis were previous head brewers and have over 25 years combined professional brewing experience. Their first collaboration was a bold, barrel-aged stout that showcased their shared appreciation for recipe creation as well as the science of craft brewing.
The name Twelve Talons is a reference to the mythical crow depicted in many East Asian mythologies. We take our version from the Japanese tales of the three-legged crow known as Yatagarasu, who is believed to live in the sun. One such tale is the myth of the "Eastern Expedition". Emperor Jimmu, who was thought to have been a descendent of the sun Goddess Amaterasu, was leading his clan in battles to conquer Japan. Amaterasu is said to have sent Yatagarasu to guide Jimmu to attack from the east instead of the west. By doing so he was led to victory by the three legged crow. In another story, after one great battle, a faction of warriors were lost in the forest. Yatagarasu is said to have appeared and then led themout of the forest to safety. Specifically in Japanese folklore the three legged crow is a symbol of divine guidance and new beginnings.
